Finding My Way to Ballard Canyon
Looking back, my journey with wine began in the tasting rooms of Napa Valley, where, as a kid, I’d occasionally sneak a sip from my parents’ glasses. I couldn’t have imagined then that years later I’d find myself immersed in vineyards and winemaking, but that early curiosity never really left.
I came to wine through years of independent study, hands-on vineyard work, and cellar experience rather than a traditional path. Over time, that journey led me to Ballard Canyon, where seasons spent working closely with a single vineyard transformed a lifelong curiosity into a clear sense of purpose.
There, I learned that exceptional wine begins long before harvest. It begins with careful observation, thoughtful stewardship, patience, and a willingness to let each vintage speak for itself. Those lessons continue to shape every decision I make—from walking the vineyard and evaluating the fruit to guiding each wine from harvest to bottle with as little intervention as possible.
WINEHOUNDING is the culmination of that journey: a small, independent wine label dedicated to crafting honest, site-driven wines that express the character of Ballard Canyon. Every bottle reflects years of learning, the generosity of mentors, colleagues, and friends, and a deep respect for the land.
My hope is that these wines become part of memorable meals, meaningful conversations, and lasting friendships. Thank you for being part of the journey.
